Detoxing
Before you detox - Read this: What i learned the hard way
A few years ago I did a parasite cleanse because it seemed to make sense with some symptoms I was having. What I didn’t know at the time was that I had undiagnosed Lyme disease, and the cleanse stirred things up and brought my Lyme symptoms to the surface in a big way. I ended up in a deep healing crisis that was pretty intense for about a year and I was even stuck in bed for about five weeks. Even simple things, like getting through a normal day, felt completely out of reach. I don’t even work a typical nine to five, and I can’t imagine trying to push through something like that while also showing up for a demanding job or family responsibilities.
It took me a long time to understand what actually happened in my body during that crisis. Now I help my clients avoid the same mistake.
Detoxing Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All
Detoxing has become a popular buzzword, but very few people stop to ask whether their body is actually ready for it. Before jumping into an aggressive cleanse, there are a few foundational systems that need to be supported first.
Your lymphatic system is your body’s drainage system. If it’s sluggish, toxins that get released during a detox have nowhere to go - which is what happened to me. Your liver is your primary filter, and if it’s already overworked, it can’t keep up with a flood of released toxins either. Trying to detox before these systems are ready is a bit like trying to drain a bathtub with the drain still clogged. The water has to go somewhere, and often it just backs up.
Gentle Groundwork Before Anything Intense
Before considering something as intense as a parasite cleanse, it’s worth supporting your body’s foundational systems first:
• Dry brushing to stimulate lymphatic flow
• Castor oil packs on the liver to support liver function and gentle detoxification
• Infrared sauna to help the body release toxins through sweat, easing the load on the liver and kidneys
• Plenty of mineral-rich water so the body is properly hydrated and able to flush what it’s releasing
• Detox baths as a gentle, at-home way to support your body’s detox pathways (Find my guide HERE)
I also worked with a practitioner trained in biomagnetism, [Candice at Golden Wellness House], which was an important piece of my own healing. Working alongside the right practitioners for the right modality, rather than trying to do everything alone, made a real difference in how I moved through this.
Here’s What I Wish Someone Had Told Me
A parasite cleanse, or any aggressive detox protocol, isn’t something to jump into just because it sounds like the missing piece. If your drainage systems aren’t ready to keep up, you can trigger a serious healing crisis, which is exactly what happened to me. This is why I always recommend working with someone who can help you assess where your body actually is before diving into something intense.
If you’re curious about detoxing but unsure where to start, or you’ve tried something that didn’t go the way you expected, I’d love to help you figure out a gentler path forward.
